Sump Pump Types

This section describes the different sump pump types and their applications. There are two main types of sump pumps: submersible and pedestal.

Submersible Sump Pump
A submersible sump pump is designed to be completely submersed inside the sump pit.

Pedestal Sump Pump
A pedestal sump pump has a pedestal that the sump pump motor sits on to keep it away from the water in the sump pit.

Backup Sump Pumps

There are two types of backup sump pumps: battery backup sump pump and water powered sump pump.

Battery Backup Sump Pump
A battery backup sump pump uses the power from a battery to run when the main power is out.

Water Powered Sump Pump
A water powered sump pump uses the municipal water supply to pump water.

Floor Sucker Pump
A newer kind of pump that can be used directly on the basement floor to remove water.

Sump Pump Alarm
An alarm that will indicate high water conditions.
