Sump Pump System Information
Sump Pump Replacement
When replacing a sump pump, you should choose a sump pump of the same type (submersible or pedestal) and pumping capacity to make the replacement easier.

Remove the Old Pump
- Unplug the old sump pump.
- Unclamp the check valve from the pipe connected to the sump pump's discharge opening.
- Remove the sump pump from its sump basin.
- Unscrew the outlet pipe from the sump pump's discharge opening.
Install the New Pump
- Clean all sediment and debris from the sump pit.
- Screw the outlet pipe onto the new sump pump's discharge opening.
- Place the new sump pump in the sump pit.
- Clamp the check valve to the pipe coming out of the sumps pump's discharge opening.
- Plug the sump pump in and test it by filling the sump basin with water.
Overall Warnings:
- Always unplug a sump pump before performing any repairs or cleaning on it.
- If the floor is wet, wear rubber soled shoes or boots before unplugging the sump pump.
- Make sure the sump pump is on its own grounded 15 Amp circuit.
- Make sure that the sump pump plug's grounding prong is intact.
