Great Pump! July 25, 2008 I'm sorry the other folks here have had bad experiences with this pump. I think it is a great pump! It works well, and I have had no problems with it! I would recommend this to anyone.
Do not buy this pump March 12, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this pump in Aug '06 because my last pump died and I had a flooded basement. I purchased the Ridgid pump because of the name and the lifetime warranty.
Well, this past weekend I went downstairs to find water had overflowed the sump pit. A lifetime warranty does not fix this but at least I can get a new pump - right?
First off Ridgid wants you to take the pump to a service center for repair (not replacement) and second there is a list of wear items not mentioned on the box where it says lifetime warranty. The switch (which is the entire black top including the cord etc.), the float, and the stator are considered wear items - not much left!
The float and the switch are to be replaced every two years and the stator every 5. Adding this up it would cost over $200 in wear part replacement every 5 years and this does not include shipping, tax, and professional installation that is required to maintain the lifetime warranty.
My pump barely made a year and a half - I got 10 years out of the last no-name cheap pump.
Do not buy this pump! If you want a good pump go with a manufacturer that specializes in them. Ridgid has not even figured out how to get 2 years out of their switch and who ever heard of replacing part of the motor as a wear item! Can you imagine if you had to replace every switch in your car every two years?
Lifetime warranty is useless! December 23, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
My experience mirrors that of Mr. Davisson's exactly. After 5 years and 2 months the float switch failed. A call to Ridgid connected me to manufacturer of this (SP-500) sump pump. They told me the switch is a "maintenance" item to be replaced every 2 years! Can you imagine buying a good pump(that was not inexpensive in the first place)in order to avoid having to go in "the pit" only to find out you must replace the switch every other year? The "FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY" (their words) is completely useless! Do your research more carefully and you'll find much better alternatives to products RIGID will not stand behind!
Supposed lifetime warranty of little to no value April 10, 2007 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought and installed this pump about 5 years ago. It was very easy to install and worked very reliably for five years until it broke. I called Rigid and they said it was probably the switch and that I could replace that and the float but I'd have to find the parts at "rigidparts.com" - well all their links are just pass through and it is very difficult to find the parts and ,more complicated to replace. If you buy this pump - you should just plan on having to replace the whole unit every 4-6 years at your cost. [...].
